         Hello, I’m Josketty

#

I am an undergraduate student majoring in Sociology and minoring in Media and Film Studies at Skidmore College. I have a strong career interest in the field of Library Science and Information Science. Originally starting my academic journey as a theater major, I transitioned to Sociology due to its focus on people and the interdisciplinary nature of the sociology courses at Skidmore. I’ve always found ways to incorporate and combine my interests in visual art, such as theater, my curiosity and love for film, with people and the world around me.

I hope to use more background in sociology in library science to provide more opportunities to engage with the community, and a commitment to keeping information accessible for everyone. Through my coursework and involvement in campus extracurriculars, I have grown my skills in communication and research. While many people don’t realize the worth of open spaces like libraries,  spaces like these provide stability to communities that might not have access to resources at home.

Favorite Movies!

A coming-of-age thriller and drama of two boys who experience shared trauma. One becomes obsessed with UFOs, while another becomes a gay hustler in the following years.

A coming-of-age horror comedy about two high-school girls. One becomes possessed and starts eating boys from the school, while the other tries to stop her.

Favorite Book Recommendations!

This coming-of-age epistolary novel tells the story of an introverted freshman as he navigates the tribulations of high school while he uncovers repressed memories and past trauma. Not everyone loves the format of this book, but it’s personally one of my favorites.

This magical realism novel is about the story of Ava, a girl born with wings. As she navigates the feelings of isolation and loneliness while telling the multigenerational legacy. I personally love the imagery of Walton’s characters, actions, and mental states.

This coming-of-age story of Moss, a queer and Black student, grieving the death of his father due to police brutality. Simultaneously dealing with and protesting against a school system that targets students of color.  (Fun Fact! The author visited my school, and I got a personalized signed copy.)

Personal Passions

I love traveling with my family! We hiked up a mountain in the Dominican Republic to reach this Waterfall.

I have a casual hobby in photography. This photo was taken in Plattsburg during the total solar eclipse in April 2024
